Being productive on Halloween is hard enough without an addictive Google Doodle in the way. This year, Google is celebrating with a spooky, yet adorable game.

The ghostly Doodle “follows freshman feline Momo on her mission to rescue her school of magic” after the master spellbook is stolen. The player can cast spells by swiping the symbol that is above a ghost’s head, including horizontal and vertical lines, a V and an inverted V, in addition to a lightning bolt. Drawing a heart refills lives in the game.

According to Google, the game takes place in five levels: the library, cafeteria, classroom, gym, and the building’s rooftop. As the levels progress, the symbol combinations become more complicated as players attempt to send away the ghosts and ghouls, which include a Venn diagram ghost and a ghost that summons other spirits.

Early ideas for the game included gag spells, a Cat Hat spell and an Eiffel Tower spell. They even dreamed up the concept of a soup so good, it raised the dead, but ended up going with a mysterious wizard school instead.
