Google Home: 8 Useful Tips and Tricks| By |Jesse Boskoff

Google Home – the home of tomorrow, today. Thanks to Google’s new technology, you can control home automation, start your favorite playlist or do many other cool things just by using your voice. The next time that you say “OK Google,” consider these eight tips and tricks to get the most out of your device.

1. Play a game

If you and your family have nothing to do, say “OK Google, I’m feeling lucky.” Google Home will present you with a multiplayer game show, keeping everyone guessing with this fun time-waster.

2. Play a cat video

Don’t open the YouTube app and manually search for videos. Just tell Google Home to search for cat videos, or any video really, and have it instantly displayed on your TV.

3. See if a store is closed

No one likes pulling up to the store only to find it closed. Ask Google Home when the nearest CVS or another type of store closes before you head out the door.

4. Create a shopping list

If you download the Google Keep app on your phone, you can add items to your Google Assistant shopping list with your voice. Tell Google Home to add milk to your shopping list, and you’ll see the updated item when you’re checking your phone at the store.

5. Have a good morning

If you say “good morning” to Google Home, it will tell you the weather and read the news. It will also provide an overview of your agenda for the day.

6. Find your phone

It’s easy to misplace your phone. Just tell Google Home to “find my phone,” and it will send a signal to your device. You will, however, have to sign up to IFTTT, a free service that lets you do more with your apps and Internet-enabled devices.

7. Control your lights

If you have Wi-Fi-enabled lamps, you can control them with Google Home. Better yet, if you use Philips Hue bulbs, tell Google Home to turn the room blue or your favorite color, and watch as the bulbs go to work without you having to flip a switch.

8. Turn off the microphone

Google Home is always listening. If that makes you feel a bit uneasy, press the button on the back of the device; it turns off the microphone.
