5 Ways to Show Mobile App Users You Love Them This Valentine’s Day!| By |Megan Marrs

Everyone needs to feel a little love, so why not spread those warm fuzzies to your beloved mobile app users?

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to show your audience how much you appreciate them. Unfortunately, I don’t think they quite have the technology developed for sending virtual hugs – luckily there are plenty of other ways apps can show their users how much they care.
Today we’re highlighting five different ways you can shower your adored app audience with sweet, sweet love.

1. Deliver Special Deals & Discounts

Valentine’s Day can be a great time to show users your sweet side with some special coupons or discounts for future purchases.

Offering deals around Valentine’s Day is especially appropriate for goods that are date-night oriented or items that can be given as a gift to someone special.

For example, Groupon ran a special v-day promotion offering spa-related services and dining.

Branding is everything here – Groupon regularly discounts local deals and spa services, so in reality the discount is nothing too special. However, labeling the coupon code as “VDAY20” makes an ordinary sale seem like something truly wow-worthy that’s unique to the holiday!

2. Team Up With Partnering Services for Holiday-Relevant Freebies

Even if your app doesn’t really offer any product or service that ties in too well with Valentine’s Day, there’s always an opportunity to strengthen your relationships with outside partners (how romantic).

The T-Mobile Tuesday app offers T-Mobile users different discounts each Tuesday. The week before Valentine’s Day they offered a new special – $15 off an order at 1-800 Flowers! I think I know at least a few folks who will be getting roses this year thanks to T-Mobile.

Teaming up with outside vendors or other apps offers an opportunity to cross-promote. Activities like these get you in front of a new audience, while also letting you offer your users something unique they might not normally receive otherwise.

3. Run a Special Event In Your App

Putting on holiday-related in-app events is another way to garner a little extra attention and lavish some love on your users.

PokemonGo is running a special Valentine’s Day event where, for a limited time, players can earn extra candy points, use longer-lasting lures, and have a higher likelihood of encountering pink pokemon!

the odds are good but the goods are odd…and pink!

Nearly any app can take part in running some kind of special Valentine’s Day event or fresh limited-time feature. For example, a music app like Spotify might consider setting up a special Valentine’s Day playlist with romantic, dulcet tones.

To really stand out, they might consider creating a separate playlist for singles on V-Day, with plenty of Adele and angry punk rock, with songs to commiserate with as well as lift the spirits!

A video media streaming app might do something similar, with suggested films for a perfect date night, along with a queue of films for those who want to be reminded that love isn’t all it’s cracked up to be (Blue Valentine, The Squid and the Whale, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Gone Girl are a few good ones that come to mind. And heck, I think we can throw in Kill Bill as well).

4. Send out Heartfelt Sentiments!

If you really adore your users, why not shout it from the rooftops for the whole world to hear? Send out an endearing push message to remind users how much you appreciate them. It doesn’t need to be anything too fancy – just use your words (and maybe some emojis)!

Example: Happy Valentine’s Day! We’ve got the best fans around – thanks for being our friend, we love you! [heart emoji]

5. Tweak a Few Touches

No time for a full scale v-day campaign? No problem! Even just throwing a new coat of paint on a regular service or feature can at least give a nod to the holiday.

Take Starbucks for example – in their app, they feature their Starbucks gift cards for sale, complete with a colorful Valentine’s Day styled image and a note reminding users that Starbucks gift cards make great gifts for loved ones.

It’s nothing huge – they aren’t even offering any kind of promotion, but it’s still a nice way of acknowledging Valentine’s Day and reminding users that you’re there.
